Location: Parkrose High School

Rate: $16.05 - $20.31 DOE (Job Classification C), PLUS, employer-paid retirement, and generous benefits package

Hours: 4 hours per day; Mon-Fri

Work Calendar: 176 days

Job Requirements:

• Experience: Prior job-related experience in food preparation, serving and basic kitchen activities, preferably in school and/or instructional setting.
• Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
  • Skills to perform basic math calculations, operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment, use standard office equipment.
  • Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles.
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, provide direction to others and make independent judgments based on common sense, and maintain accurate records, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, balancing, stooping, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations and other sounds (potential hazards), visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation.
• Regular attendance must be maintained

 

Education Required:  High School diploma or equivalent

 

License, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

• Valid Class Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (cost to the employee: $12.50 for fingerprints at the time of registration;  $66.00 for criminal background check will be paid through a one-time payroll deduction)
• Blood Pathogen Training and other mandatory annual training provided by district

 

Preferred:

• Bilingual
• Experience working with diverse student populations preferred

Position Details

 

Nutrition Service Helper Job Functions:

The job of “Nutrition Service - Helper” is done for the purpose/s of preparing and distributing food items for consumption by students and school personnel; and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition.

• Cleans utensils, equipment and the areas of storage, food preparation and serving for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions.
• Estimates food preparation amounts for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing waste.
• Inspects received items of food and/or supplies for the purpose of ensuring specifications, quantity, and quality of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements.
• Instructs student workers for the purpose of food serving and cleaning.
• Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Prepares food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and projected meal requirements.
• Reports equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working order.
• Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals.
• Serves one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
• Stocks food, condiments and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items.

 

Other Job Functions:

• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

 

Physical Requirements

In a three (3) hour day the nutrition service employee may:

• Stand/walk – 3 hours
• Sit - minimal
• Bend, kneel, squat, climb stairs or ladders
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds
• Requires continuous reaching, bending, crouching, twisting, kneeling and the repetitive use of arms, hands, wrists and legs.

 

The nutrition service employee will need:

• Near/far visual acuity, depth perception. unaffected field of vision, unaffected hearing, ability to talk/converse and the ability to evacuate students from classrooms/building
